Transactions are the Revit commands that Guardian monitors when content is brought into a project model, such as Load Family, Insert from File, Copy and Paste from another model, or even Explode CAD. When one of these commands is detected, Guardian responds by automatically processing and cleaning incoming properties for end-users while providing a full Model Properties dialog for administrators.
There are layers and layers of properties within Revit models and families and understanding how they all function, in conjunction with your firm’s standards, is difficult even for experienced Revit users.
Transactions allow administrators to control exactly what happens when end-users load content, ensuring properties are cleaned automatically without requiring end-users to understand the underlying mapping logic.
Transactions are created and managed within Project Configurations under the Transactions tab. Guardian comes pre-populated with the most common Revit commands users need for processing Model Properties.
Note: The Transaction name and Revit command name, as identified on the ribbon, do not always match.
Pro Tip: To find the correct event name, complete a Revit command (like Insert Family) and check the event name listed in the History section in Model Properties.

To create a new Transaction:
To restore defaults, click Restore Defaults. This removes any newly created Transactions and restores only the original defaults.

Each Transaction can be configured with one of three end-user experience modes. Administrators always receive the full mapping experience regardless of this setting (see Administrator Experience below).
| Mode | Dialog Shows to User? | Mapping Type Available | Mapping Saved? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silent Mode | No | Automatic (known mappings only) | N/A |
| Show Dialogs (one-time mappings) | Yes | One-time mapping only | No |
| Show Dialogs (full mappings) | Yes | All mapping types | Yes |
Silent Mode processes all known mappings in the background and purges unused properties when new content is loaded into the model. Other than a progress bar for larger content, no Guardian dialog is shown to the user.
Show Dialogs (one-time mappings) presents the Incoming Properties dialog so the user can manually map incoming properties to those in the current model. The mapping will not be remembered.
Show Dialogs (full mappings) presents the Incoming Properties dialog with access to all mapping types. The mapping will be saved and remembered for future use.
Pro Tip: Set Silent Mode for the most commonly used Transactions. Most novice to intermediate Revit users do not understand Revit properties to the level required for proper Guardian mapping usage.
Company and Project Administrators always receive the Show Dialog (full mappings) experience, regardless of how the Transactions end-user mode is configured. When incoming content is detected, admins are presented with two options:

Remove new properties that are not used: Processes all known mappings in the background and purges unused properties. The Incoming Properties dialog is not shown.
Let me choose which properties to keep: Opens the Incoming Properties dialog with full access to all mapping capabilities for the incoming content.

For incoming content that requires a longer processing time, Guardian will present a prompt allowing the user to skip processing at that time. Properties can be reviewed and cleaned later under Model Properties.
