User Overrides

User Overrides allow the Command Frequency of User Commands to be customized by Revit end-users and Guardian Administrators. The User Overrides dialog is populated when users change the Command Frequency setting away from the company or project defaults.

There are two ways to manage User Overrides:

  1. User-determined: When a Revit end-user self-selects the Command Frequency as set per each User Command, that selection is then listed within the User Override management dialog. Most firms rely on this method as this gives users self-determination on how much guidance is necessary for that specific command. This method eliminates the need for user management by the Company Administrator.
  2. Company Administrator-determined: A Company Administrator can add a Command Override for a specific user, or multiple users, in which they can be pre-assigned a Command Frequency override for the specific User Command.

End user management

For any User Commands under Project Configurations, the Command Frequency can be set to allow or never allow the user to edit.

When an end-user executes a Revit command set to Guide or Prevent, the Command Message will appear. If the User can edit option is enabled, the end user can use the Remind me dropdown in the lower left of the dialog to alter the frequency at which they see this Command Message.

If they select anything other than the pre-set frequency, that selection is registered within the User Overrides management dialog.

Company Administrator management

The User Overrides management dialog is found under Settings. All users who have self-selected an override are listed for each command. In the User Overrides settings (A), Administrators can filter the overrides to only show users for the open project or from all of their assigned projects.

Company Administrators can modify existing overrides and create new custom overrides (B). If checked, the User Can Edit function allows users to self-select their preferred Command Frequency when they receive a Command Message. If unchecked, end-users will not be able to self-select their preferred frequency.

The delete button will remove the frequency override completely, but it will not prevent the user from self-selecting their preferred Command Frequency the next time they execute that command.

Add Command Override dialog

When adding a new override, an Administrator can select one or multiple usernames and specify the desired Command and Command Frequency just for them.

Once a User Override is assigned to a user, it carries across all project models in which that user is active, regardless of which User Command settings or Project Configurations have been assigned to those models. Also note that the executed commands will still be registered in Monitor mode within Guardian’s Project Central and Guardian Backstage.
